Oldham Church Of Christ ....

Discipleship

A poet once wrote about life so beautifully. He wrote:

At least there is hope for a tree:
If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.
Its roots may grow old in the ground, and its stump die in the soil,
yet at the scent of water, it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant.
But a man dies and is laid low; he breathes his last and is no more.
As the water of a lake dries up or a riverbed becomes parched and dry,
so, he lies down and does not rise; till the heavens are no more, people will not awake or be roused from their sleep.

We may have seen someone we love, or at least know, pass on. We have never seen them come back again. Death feels so final. Yet the good news in this poem is that they are described as asleep. “Till the heavens are no more,” they will not awake. These points take us beyond this life and make us ask deeper questions.

Now, kindly reflect on this deeply: Why are you here on earth? Is it fair that you go through so much pain, joy, struggle, and effort, only to breathe your last and vanish? Will your life end with your final breath and nothing more, or is there a greater purpose and a future beyond what you see now?

We encourage you to know that you have a special purpose on earth. Your life becomes far more meaningful when you discover your true purpose. The Bible says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). You are not an accident. You are God’s handiwork, designed for a life of purpose and good works.

We invite you to come and visit us. Let us reason together and discuss how special you are and the essential purpose of your life on earth. There is more to your story than birth, struggle, and death. Come and explore God’s purpose for your life with us.
